The big scientific explosion that was purported to be the news of the year, we found out was nothing more than a wet cracker. Dr. Woo-Suk turns out is no more than a scientific swindler fudging his data to gain quick fame.
Seems like all the media is in a frenzy to jump on the bandwagon to stone the fallen angel of cloning – Hwang Woo-Suk. It was only last year that TIME reported his astonishing scientific breakthroughs. It was after his team reported that they have created the world’s first mature, cloned human embryos the media went berserk. What unfolded after that is just as bizarre. The big scientific explosion that was purported to be the news of the year, we found out was nothing more than a wet cracker. It turns out that Dr. Woo-Suk is no more than a scientific swindler fudging his data to gain quick fame.
The question still remains. How did he get published in Science and gain widespread recognition and accolades before somebody had the courage and hindsight to point out the obvious gaps in his study. I wonder that this is an exception to the rule of scientific integrity or just another instance of tailor made data that the public is unaware of?
